Trestle Records is pleased to present the latest One Day Band session featuring Leo Abrahams, David Coulter and Seb Rochford.
A vast array of textures greets the listener. Ambient echoes, scratchy percussion, crunchy loops, washed out delays, electronic feedback. Cinematic sweeps sit at ease with bare knuckle percussive drive, whilst jaw harp pulses and the saw bends its moan atop guitar, abstracted into ambience. There is a profound sense of ceremony at work even in the more subtle passages of interplay where the improvisers allow space, self-editing in attuned support of one another and the sounds being discovered.
The recording took place at Netil House Hackney on the day following the release of Coulter and Rochford’s record, Good Friday, available at www.trestlerec.com
The One Day Band sessions are an ongoing series hosted by Trestle Records and Callum Sadler at Netil House. Musicians are invited to participate in the making of an album improvised and recorded in a single day. Often the collaborators are meeting for the first time on the day of recording. After a minimum of post-production the results are published on www.trestlerec.com free to stream.

Recorded over one day on Good Friday 2015, the improvised session was essentially stripped back to drums and jaw harp for the most part. The recording is a document to an ethos of exploration and communication with the tracks ranging from snippets, utterances that pass by briefly, to pieces that gain traction wandering into highly rhythmical, motoric territories.

I just never cease to be amazed at their generosity of spirit and sonic visions. Whenever we meet and play something special happens. We will be presenting a few "excerpts" from the novel A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini which has been beautifully adapted by Ursula Rani Sarma. New Strands is a festival featuring new theatrical pieces, works in progress, readings, and experimental work by playwrights, dance companies, musicians, animation artists, and more, the New Strands Festival is devoted to supporting local, national, and international artists in the creation and completion of original theater. LULLABY MOVEMENT AT WATERMILL CENTER
I was honored to have been able to spend a few weeks in Upstate New York with my fellow Lullaby Movement family, Sophia Brous and Leo Abrahams, working and developing the project at Robert Wilson's amazing Watermill Center in South Hampton, Long Island. We also performed at the Ferus Festival at National Sawdust, Brooklyn and spent few days recording the material for future release with the great Marc Urselli. It was wonderful to see Bob in attendance at our presentation and even more exciting to receive his email the following day...

Laurel Near, qui joue la Dame du radiateur dans le film, interprétait la chanson en playback. Discreet + Oblique: The Music Of Brian Eno - at the Barbican, Transcender Festival 26 September 2015
Leo Abrahams and I were asked to rework our Discreet + Oblique project for the Barbican's Transcender Festival a few weeks ago. We continued our collaboration with The Necks and were joined by Benge, John Harle, Olly Coates and Emma Smith to rework the piece for a larger space and a different audience. It was an inspiring few days and the performance was a very memorable one. Huge thanks to all those folk who helped make it happen.
"If Discreet Music offered a new way of hearing to music, then Discreet + Oblique offers of new way of listening to it. The performance feels like an exercise in chaos theory, where the slightest alteration of a foundational element could render a new work entirely. The developments made to Eno’s work by these musicians is overwhelming, it’s immediacy and extemporaneity turning a tribute into this bright, shiny new thing. Even more overwhelming is to consider the ways in which it could’ve been different if it was tackled by different musicians, or with a different set of Oblique Strategies, or even if the cellist had slept on his neck funny. The scope of this project is, in theory, infinite." The Quietus

August 2015 - Discreet + Oblique: The Music of Brian Eno
August saw myself and my brother-in-music, Leo Abrahams, crossing the oceans (for the third time this year) to Melbourne, Australia, to make and premier our new collaboration celebrating the 40th Anniversary of Brian Eno's seminal "ambient" album, DISCREET MUSIC, with The Necks, Golden Fur and Matthew Brown, as one of the commissioned headline productions for the inaugural SUPERSENSE Festival curated by Sophia Brous at Melbourne Arts Centre. It was a beautifully intense week rewarded by a sold out house and a beautiful moment shared together on stage.

Goldsmiths Palermo Summer Intensive Performance Practices
I had an incredibly stimulating and rewarding time working with a group of Performance/ Movement/ Music practitioners on the first Goldsmith Summer School in Palermo, Sicily. An exhausting and sweltering hotbed of creativity - and some of the best food imaginable! Enormous thanks go out to Professor Anna Furse, Head of Department of Theatre and Performance at Goldsmiths, my two colleagues Marie Gabrielle Rotie and Maja Mitic who delivered the course with Anna and myself.

This workshop intensive, a collaboration between Goldsmiths, University of London, and the Ministry of Culture for the Commune di Palermo, directed by Dr Andrea Cusumano, has been running in Palermo at Montevergine 20 – 25th July. Participants have come from the UK and internationally from as far as Singapore, Trinidad and Tobago, and there is a strong Palermo participation of dancers, actors, musicians, singers and some visual artists. Tutors David Coulter, Marie Gabrielle Rotie, Maja Mitic and the project director Anna Furse have been working each day from 9.30 in the morning till the night. Students have been training and improvising and have also collaborated in interdisciplinary performance exercises.
Friendships and new collaborations have quickly been established and the group of 35 is working very intensively, with some original results.
Anna Furse and her collaborator in Palermo Mela Dell ‘Erba invite the public to come to see our work-in-progress on Saturday 20th July from 5 – 7pm at Montevergini.
Entrance is free of charge.
